What are Decorative Walls?
The most common decorative walls are made of stone. Decorative walls don’t require the same structual integrity as retaining walls. Although it should be noted that the height of the wall is a consideration in what to use as a footing, shorter walls might only need 3-4” of stone at it’s base where a taller wall might need a concrete footing. The main function is to create a barrier or boundary and look good.
A now common and less expensive alternative to the traditional stone wall is the use of thin stone. Thin stone is real stone that has been cut from a rock creating a veneer material that can be applied to any masonary surface. The high cost of thin stone is offset by the labor saving it provides. The end result of this type of wall is as aesthetically pleasing as a traditionally built stone wall.
